Jacob F. Raub was born May 13, 1840 in Williams Township, Northampton Co., PA. He was the son of Michael J. Raub and Sarah Ann (Souders) Raub. He served as Assistant Surgeon to the 210th Pennsylvania Regiment during the Civil War. I have been unable as yet to determine where he was educated. His military service was distinguished being a Medal of Honor recipient and having been buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

His Medal of Honor was issued on April 20, 1896 for his bravery at Hatcher's Run, Virginia on February 5, 1865, some 31 years after the action that earned him the distinction. During the battle he discovered a flanking movement of the enemy. At great peril he managed to warn the commanding general and then, though a non-combatant, assisted in repelling the attack. After the war he practiced medicine for many years in Northampton County communities.

He married Jane S. Weaver (b. 1842) on September 16, 1864 in Reading, Pennsylvania. They had 3 children known to this researcher. Daughters Myrta and Grace, and a son Austin. Jacob died on May 21, 1906 and Jane on November 2, 1908. They are buried together at Arlington.
