Links to sites with links:

http://www.key-net.net/users/oron/palinksfr.htm - Brenda’s guide to online genealogy links. Huge listing of links pertaining to Pennsylvania genealogy. Somewhat tedious to sift through but there are some gems here. This URL no longer works and I cannot locate the site. If you know the new URL please contact me.

http://www.cyndislist.com/ - The infamous Cindy’s List. Only for the truly patient surfer, I find this site extremely tedious to go through but any serious researcher should not ignore it. Just be prepared to waste allot of time finding a useful link.

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6508/ - Lots of Eastern Pennsylvania links. A site that could potentially be among the best for this area but it is very much incomplete. Most databases were started and never finished.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~myfamilyhistorypage/Genealogy%20Resources/pa_pala_men.html - Pennsylvania Genealogy Links.

Genealogy Search Engines:

http://www.familysearch.org/ - The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints: one of the best places to go for beginners – FREE DATABASE. Includes an all name index of the 1880 census. Source information is very limited in most cases. Databases supplied by individuals can have accuracy issues. More offical records can also be purchased such as church and government publications.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi - RootsWeb’s WorldConnect Project. Huge database of existing research, documentation is hit and miss – FREE DATABASE. The original concept here was great - everyone would share their genealogy information for free. Then RootsWeb started struggling financially and sold their souls to you guessed it, Ancestry.com. While still free to the end user the pages are now loaded with ads that profit Ancestry's parent company The Generations Network. A few years ago I removed my data from Rootsweb. I estimate I have spent several thousand hours since 1995 compiling and researching family history and have never asked for nor received any compensation. I did not voluteer all of that time to enhance the bonus check of the CEO of The Generations Network.

http://www.genexchange.com/ - searchable database.

http://www.ancestry.com/ - Ancestry.com: search the largest genealogy database on the Internet, some free, most fee based. I'm not a fan of the parent company The Generations Network. I think they have just about monopolized genealogy on the web. That's never a good thing for the end user. However, there is no denying they have more information than anyone else. Their "customer service" people are nothing less than highly skilled telemarketers. They were very aggressive at trying to convince me not to cancel my subscription (I did cancel). I have heard others make the same comments.

http://www.genealogy.com/ - Similar to Ancestry.com. Subscription fee required to view most data. They are also owned by The Generations Network.
